The Miners’ Story, a 1965 documentary from WCAU-TV Philadelphia, is hosted by actor Jack Palance. Jack Palance was born Volodymyr Palahniuk in Lattimer Mines, PA, a little town north of Hazleton. He was of Ukrainian decent. His father, an anthracite miner, died of black lung disease and Palance worked in the mines in his early years. He thought of himself as a “coal cracker at heart” and always called the Wyoming Valley his home.
