Main Street saloon locations from the 1894 Pittston Directory.

Throughout history in the Wyoming Valley you were never far from a drinking establishment where one can wet their whistle. The family-owned corner bar has been a staple in Greater Pittston going back to even before the discovery of coal in the area. In fact, the first “public house” in Pittston dates back to the Sheepskin Tavern in 1799. It was located at the foot of Parsonage Street on North Main Street – where Pittston Fort was located and now the current location of the old Pittston Fort School. The attached photos are a small sample of those in our overall collections, but should bring back memories – mostly good – of days gone by.

Greater Pittston saloons listed in the 1906 Pittston Directory.
