St. Casimir’s Church – Church & Butler Street– Lithuanians began settling in Pittston in 1869. By 1885 two hundred Lithuanians called Pittston home. Until St. Casimir’s Church was completed in 1889, the Lithuanians fulfilled their religious duties in other Catholic churches and congregated in the St. Casimir’s Society. A Lithuanian parochial school was established in 1891, but was closed after just a few years by government decree. 1892 saw a rectory built. 1893 saw it enlarged and grounds for a cemetery purchased. Much of this work was under the guidance of Rev. J. Zlotozinskas. Worship continued uninterrupted until 2008 when the church was closed and parishioners migrated to St. John’s.
