Fort Jenkins Bridge Vintage Linen Postcard Circa 1940’s -GPHS Member Personal Collection

“When the Fort Jenkins Bridge opened in 1926, spanning the Susquehanna River between Pittston and West Pittston, the Pittston Gazette newspaper called it a “work of art.” The bridge is practically one solid block of more than 20,000 cubic feet of concrete, according to the Gazette. The bridge cost $689,700 or approximately $9.9 million in today’s dollars to build.” John Bubul talking about information provided in a John Panzitta photographic history presentation in 2019.
