A very interesting article about the laying out of Main Street in Pittston, how Plank Street got it’s name and an explanation of why the curve exists in the road at Panama Street., from the Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader January 10, 1964. Incidentally, the article relies heavily on information supplied by Greater Pittston Historian Charles McCarthy. The Greater Pittston Historical Society is the holder of Mr. McCarthy’s entire collection of papers.
Also a news clipping which includes a photo of main Street in Pittston. The caption reads: many memories in this 1950 scene of Main St, Pittston & concludes with ” probably was a Gene Autry movie playing at the Roman Theatre.”
Additionally, an Ed Miller photograph from the late 1930’s of downtown Pittston. The photo caption reads: “street car tracks featured in this photo on main St., Pittston.”

The Peter Wagner mentioned in the article was my Great, Great Grandfather. He and his brother-in-law, Peter Petty, also mentioned in the article, later owned a big farm below Campdells ledge.
