A quick update on what’s new at the Greater Pittston Historical Society:
1.) We’re looking forward to participating in the first St. Patrick’s Parade sponsored by Pittston City on over a half century! (The last reference we could find to a St. Patrick’s Parade in Pittston City in any newspaper was 1935) These are the fine automobiles which we’ll be riding in for the parade.
2.) Bumper stickers will soon be here!
We continue to be told that only a small percentage of the population of Greater Pittston know we exist. Soooooo, we’ve ordered a whole bunch of GPHS bumper stickers to help get our name out there in the community. Please support us by purchasing a sticker and displaying it prominently so even more Greater Pittstonians will be aware that there’s now a Greater Pittston Historical Society
3.) The book scanner that was so generously built and donated to the Historical Society by the good people at Main Technologies in Old Forge, PA has been received! We’re very excited about receiving this highly-specialized piece of equipment which will now allow us to preserve the oldest, largest and most delicate publications of Greater Pittston’s history. The first job for the scanner will be to digitally preserve many of the historic government volumes from Pittston City as seen in the below photo. After that we’ll be setting our sites on the archives of the Pittston Sunday Dispatch weekly newspaper.
